Life holds many lessons for each of us to learn. While some people make the same mistakes over and over without learning from them, there are seven things a lot of successful people have tried and therefore have decided they’ll never do again. These are:
1. They don’t go back to something that didn’t work for them before
Be it a job, the relationship with a customer, or a romantic relationship that’s over because it wasn’t working, successful people know that there is a reason it ended. They also know they can’t go back where they’ve been and expect things to be different from before if they have done nothing to make it so.
2. They don’t try to change other people
At some point in our lives, most of us have tried to change another person. The problem with that is the fact that you can’t get other people to do anything they don’t feel like doing, but you can let go and give them the freedom to experience things for themselves. Successful people know this, and for this reason, they don’t try to change other people.
3. They don’t think they have to please everyone
As I wrote in one of my books back in 2012, it is impossible to please everyone around us (even though lots of people try). Successful people know what they’re about, and for this reason, they usually just please the ones they themselves benefit by pleasing.
4. They don’t do anything that requires them to be anyone but themselves
When all is said and done, we are only accountable to ourselves, when we must choose and make important decisions through life. The more we listen to ourselves, the more we grow. The less we listen to others and do things that go against our inner values, the more we lose ourselves along the way. Therefore, successful people don’t do anything that requires them to be anyone but who they are, because they know that if they do that, they lose themselves more and more.
5. They don’t collaborate with people that don’t produce results
It comes natural for most of us to be attracted to successful people. There is a big difference, however, between a person being able to create measurable results and a person saying they can do so. Successful people know this, and this is why they only collaborate with people who have created the results they say they can create.
6. They don’t take their eyes off the long-term goal
It’s so easy in our day-to-day lives to be dazzled by the details that we forget the big picture – especially when it’s about going after your goals. Successful people know this, and therefore they always stay focused on their long-term goals.
7. They don’t forget that their inward thoughts are crucial for their outward success
Most of us in life experience both good and bad things, just like we all make mistakes. There’s a big difference, however, between allowing the things we experience to knock us down, and dusting ourselves off and continuing to move forward. This is where our inward thoughts play a role, and they determine whether or not we end up with the success we want. Successful people know this, and therefore they don’t forget that their inward thoughts determine their outward success.
